Free Pattern: Open Stitch Hat - 3 Months

6 month size here.

On the three-month size I used the open version of the large no-sew rose.  Love these colors.
Supplies:
Worsted Weight Yarn (I used "I Love This Cotton" by Hobby Lobby for the hat and Red Heart Soft for the rose.)
Size 5mm (H/8) hook
Opt tapestry needle

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
Sc - single crochet

Instructions:
Round 1: Magic Ring, ch 3.  10 dc inside ring.  Pull ring tight to close.   Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3.  2 dc in each dc.   Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.  (20 dc)
Round 3: Ch 3.  *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.  (30 dc)
Round 4: Ch 3.  *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.  (40 dc)
Round 5: Ch 3.  *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 7 dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.  (45 dc)
Round 6: Ch 3.  Dc in first dc, ch 1.  *Skip one dc.  Dc, ch 1.  Repeat from * around (the last time you won't skip a dc, but do the ch 1 anyway).  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.  Sl st backward (or forward if it's easier for you) into ch-1 space.
Rounds 7-10: Ch 3. In each ch-1 space around, [dc, ch 1].  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.  Sl st backward (or forward if it's easier for you) into ch-1 space.
Round 11: Ch 1.  Sc in each dc and ch-1 space.  (46 sc)
Round 12: Ch 1.  Sc in each sc around.  (46 sc)  Finish off, weave in ends.

  4. I am new to crochet. I found this hat pattern easy to follow. I would like to make a larger one for a three year old. Do you have this hat pattern in a larger size?

  5. I have ill since April,almost died after having a colon resection.I was in ICU for six days,lost my spleen also. I also lost my job in the process. Since I have gotten better I have been crocheting a lot. I really enjoy getting patterns from your website. Thank you very much!!!!

    1. Not yet. But you can do what I will write (when I get to it) if you follow the instructions for the 9-12 month of the deeply textured hat (click the 9-12 month link on the side of the blog)- you can follow it for the increases and then follow this open stitch pattern instead of doing the rows of post stitches.

  11. Having trouble with Row 6 and beyond.I am ending up with an increase in stitches. Slip st into space and then ch 3, and hook a DC in same stitch where I slipped stitch. I am ending up with way more stitches than 46 for 3 mo hat.
