Free Pattern: Beanie with Crossed Texture Detail Row: Newborn

Supplies:
Worsted Weight yarn (I used Martha Stewart Crafts with Lion Brand Yarn extra soft wool blend)
Size 5mm hook
Opt tapestry needle for weaving in

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch

Special stitch:
Crossed Dc - Dc in the second dc from hook.  Dc in the skipped dc.  (You may want to put a stitch marker in the top ch of this row so you can find it for the join at the end.)



Instructions:
Round 1: Magic Ring, ch 3.  10 dc inside ring.  Pull ring tight to close.   Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3.  2 dc in each dc.   Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.  (20 dc)
Round 3: Ch 3.  *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.  (30 dc)
Round 4: Ch 3.  *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc.  Repeat from * around.  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.  (40 dc)
Round 5 - 8: Ch 3.  Dc in each dc around.  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3. (40 dc)
Round 9: Change to coordinating color. Ch 3. Crossed dc around (Don't cross back over the starting chain).  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3. (18 pairs crossed dc)
Round 10: Change back to main color.  Ch 3.  Dc around. Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3. (40 dc)
Opt Round 11 (not pictured): Change to coordinating color.  Ch 1.  Loosely reverse sc (or crab stitch) around.  Finish off, weave in ends.

  2. So very excited to find your blog! I love to crochet but haven't in quite some time. My BFF is soon to be a new grandma...I've known the 'new mom to be' since SHE was a baby (yikes, how could she 'age' and yet I've stayed the same..lol)...new little baby girl will be arriving in Oct...and I'm looking forward to spoiling her with lots of little crocheted treasures! I'm a 'follower' now...can't wait to come back and check out all your goodies.

  7. I'm a little confused on Round 9 - if you want to end up with 40 sts again, shouldn't you have 20 pairs of crossed stitches?
