Free Pattern: Bear Boo-Boo Buddy Ice Pack Cover

When I made the original boo-boo buddies for my girls, I thought little animals would be cute, but I hadn't gotten around to revisiting the pattern - until now!  It took only a few simple additions to the original pattern to make a bear boo-boo buddy.

Supplies:
Small amount cotton yarn
5mm (H/8) hook
Yarn needle
Button

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sc - single crochet

Instructions (make 2):
Round 1: Magic Ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc. (12 dc) Pull magic ring tight, join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same ch.  2 dc in each dc around.  (24 dc)  Join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same ch.  2 dc in next dc.  dc in next dc.  *2 dc in next 2 dcs.  Dc in next dc.  Repeat from * around.  (40 dcs)  Join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 4: Ch 1.  Loosely sc around.  Join, finish off.  Weave in ends.

Ears (make 2):
Magic Ring, ch 3.  Inside ring, 7 dc.  Do not join, finish off with a tail for sewing.  With the ch 3 and final dc in a straight line, pull ring tight.

Eyes (make 2):
Magic Ring, ch 1.  10 sc inside ring.  Pull ring tight.  Join to first sc, finish off with a tail for sewing.

Nose:
Magic Ring, ch 1.  Inside ring sc, hdc, 2 dc, hdc, 2 sc, hdc, 2 dc, sc.  Pull ring tight, join to ch 1 or first sc.  Finish off with a tail for sewing.

Assembly: With wrong sides together, put the ears about 7 st apart.  Use tails of ears to sew them to the two sides of the pack, making sure they are secure through both sides.  Attach a length of yarn to the bottom side of one ear, sew two sides of pack together until you reach the other ear.  Finish off.
Using tail ends, sew on eyes, nose.  Attach a length of yarn to bottom center of nose, embroider on the mouth, using the chain stitch.
Sew button securely to Round 3 directly under the middle of the opening of the back side of the pack.  Join yarn to middle st of open sides on the front, tightly ch 15 (or long enough to go around button).  Join to same st, finish off.  Weave in ends.

To use: Put 3-5 ice cubes in a sandwich baggie, seal bag.  Put inside pack, close with button.  Put on kid's boo-boo.
